In Yale New Haven Hospital, John Gregory Stranz, 68, of Guilford, died peacefully after a long illness on Friday, July 20, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sheila Johnson Stranz for 41 years. Born in New Haven on Oct. 20, 1943, son of the late John Henry Stranz and Mary Rose (Konop) Stranz. Loving father of Michelle Stranz, Lori (Sam) Stranz and Gregory (Carrie) Stranz. Mr. Stranz is also survived by four grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Stranz attended Boston University and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Quinnipiac College. He served his country in the US Army National Guard from 1967 – 1973. He was self-employed and owner of Galvin Auto Parts in New Haven. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 3928, Guilford, an avid fisherman, hunter and Red Sox fan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Tuesday, July 24 at 11am. Friends may call prior to Mass on Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30am at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Burial will take place privately.
