Obituary:On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in Yale New Haven Hospital, Eugene (Gene) L. Gardell, 74, of Cheshire, formerly a longtime resident of Clinton, passed away peacefully. He was the beloved husband of Carol Gardell for 54 years. Gene was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 14, 1937, son of the late Lawrence and Lillian Gardell. Loving father of Jon (spouse Debbie) Gardell of Ballston Lake, NY, Merry (spouse Randy) Day of Prospect, Bill (spouse Beth) Gardell of West Kingston, RI and Pete (spouse Jackie) Gardell of Middletown. Brother of Bill Gardell of Bentwood, NY and Barbara Ford of Bayshore, NY. Predeceased by a brother Bob Gardell. Survived by eight grandchildren: Jen and Alison Gardell; Tim Dammann; Ben, Jillian, and Zach Gardell; Erin and Sabrina Gardell.
Gene was a teacher at the Walsh Intermediate School in Branford. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Clinton and served on the Board of Trustees. He was very active with the Clinton Parks and Recreation Commission including serving as Commissioner and with coaching several youth sports teams.
Friends may call Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 2 to 6pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford; Prayer Services will be held at 6pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mr. Gardell’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or the American Heart Assoc.
