Name: Dr. Robert George Miller Dates: Birth date: August 27, 1923 Death date: June 13, 2012 Obituary: In Cortland Place, Smithfield, RI, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, Dr. Robert George Miller, 88, of 131 Cow Hill Rd, Clinton, CT passed away. He was the beloved husband of Bernice W. Miller of Clinton, CT. Born in Asbury Park, NJ on August 27, 1923 son of the late John P. and Amelia Zugner Miller he is survived by his daughter Justine (Gregory) Curry of Johnston, RI and their children Amanda and Aidan, his two sons, Hans (Carrie) Miller of Woodinville, WA, Daniel (Maureen) Miller of Cheshire, CT and their children Elizabeth, Ryan, and Rebecca. He is also survived by a niece and several nephews. Dr. Miller was predeceased by his brother Dr. John P. Miller Jr and sister Regina Hansen. After four years of active duty in the Navy, he graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and received his Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University of Medicine. He had a general school of residency at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. He studied neurosurgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City for three years and was granted a Fellowship in neurosurgery for an additional year. Dr. Miller was on the neurosurgical staff of St. Mary’s Hospital and the US Veteran’s Hospital in East Orange, NJ prior to entering private practice in Danbury where he was the attending neurosurgeon at Danbury Hospital. He was also a consultant to New Milford Hospital, the US Federal Corrections Institute and associate attending neurosurgeon St. Vincent’s in NY. He was a member of the Harvey Cushing Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Diplomat of National Board of Medical Examiners, Diplomat of American Board of Neurological Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as local societies. After retirement from neurosurgery he began a career of teaching at Yale School of Medicine in the Anatomy Department as well as the New Haven Hospital paramedic and PA program. As a hobbyist, his interests were in vintage cars, mechanical musical instruments, music, ocean liners and antiques among others. Friends may call Monday, June 18 from 12:30 – 2 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:30pm. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
